 Yes, Lakefield is in a peaceful location on the edge of the village of Near Sawrey with wonderful views over Esthwaite Water and the surrounding fells.

Nearby options include the Cuckoo Brow Inn in Far Sawrey, the Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey, the Red Lion in Hawkshead, and Billy's Barr & Restaurant in Hawkshead. The Tower Bank Arms in Near Sawrey is walking distance from Lakefield House and Lakefield Cottage. On the other side of Esthwaite Water is the Boathouse Café with beautiful lake views. Best to book ahead of arrival.

How far is Hawkshead from Lakefield House and Lakefield Cottage?

Lakefield is about 5 minutes by car from Hawkshead. Hawkshead is a nearby historic village in the Lake District, known for its cobbled streets, car-free centre, pubs, shops, and literary links to Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth.

What can I do around Moss Eccles Tarn?

A walk from Near Sawrey to Moss Eccles Tarn is a popular local route, and the tarn is associated with Beatrix Potter. The route starts from a few yards from Lakefield and has beautiful views over Esthwaite Water. You can carry from Moss Eccles to Wise Een Tarn which has further beautiful views.

How do I get to Windermere Ferry?

Turn right out of Lakefield onto the B5285 and follow the road to the ferry for about 2 miles. The Windermere Ferry runs between Bowness-on-Windermere and Far Sawrey, taking around 10 minutes one way, with frequent crossings throughout the day.

Is Windermere Ferry useful for reaching Lakefield and Hawkshead?

Yes, the ferry is a practical route for reaching the western side of Windermere and is commonly used when travelling towards Near Sawrey and Hawkshead. It can get busy during peak holiday periods.

What is Hawkshead like?

Hawkshead is a picturesque, historic Lake District village with cobbled streets, whitewashed cottages, small shops, and a pedestrian-friendly centre.

Can I see ospreys at Esthwaite Water?

Can I fish on Esthwaite Water?

You can buy a fishing permit at the fishery next to the Boathouse Café on Esthwaite Water. Esthwaite Water is highly rated for its fishing.

Did Beatrix Potter live in Near Sawrey?

Yes, Beatrix Potter lived in Near Sawrey at Hilltop. Hilltop is now a National Trust property open to the public and is 5 minutes’ walk from Lakefield House and Cottage.
